  • Postnatal Mood Disorders - Advice for partners, family & friends
    If you are suffering from a postnatal mood disorder, having the support of a partner can be helpful. Below are some tips for supporting an expectant or new mother who has symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  • PND in Men
    There is a widespread belief that antenatal and postnatal depression is only experienced by women. Research and anecdotal evidence suggests that this is not the case. It is believed that around one in 14 men will experience depression during the antenatal and postnatal period, with some evidence suggesting that the figure could be as high as one in three.
  • Postnatal / Postpartum (Puerperal) Psychosis
    This is an uncommon disorder that occurs in 1 - 2 per 1,000 women and has a sudden onset with severe symptoms - usually within 2 - 3 weeks of childbirth.

    More than 15% of women and 10% of men develop postnatal depression. Many women do not know that postnatal depression can occur after delivery and typically blame themselves, their partners or their baby for the way they feel.
